Invisalign for Adults

Are you an adult that has previously had orthodontic treatment as a child? Have you noticed that as you’ve aged, your teeth have started to shift? Or, did you always want orthodontic treatment but didn’t have the means to financially move forward with treatment? Orthodontic intervention is an option at any age! Especially as an adult, you may want to either get your teeth straightened for the first time or just do some tweaking to align your teeth to how they once were when you were younger. Either way, Invisalign is a great choice for you.

Choose an Orthodontist

Now that you are thinking of getting Invisalign to straighten your teeth as an adult, you will want to choose an orthodontist to set up a consultation. There are plenty of orthodontists located throughout New York City that are highly qualified to provide Invisalign treatment. Your goal is to find the one orthodontist that you feel most comfortable with and that will provide you with high quality service. Remember to make sure the orthodontist is licensed in the state of New York.

First Consultation

During the consultation your orthodontist will discuss your specific issues and what goal you are trying to reach. Next, a customized plan will be mapped out to help you reach your desired look. Your orthodontist will take an x-ray and discuss your treatment. This is when you will be given an estimation of the time frame of treatment and how many Invisalign trays will be necessary.

Payments and Prices

While prices will vary slightly from office to office and patient to patient, depending on specific needs, you can expect the cost of Invisalign to range anywhere from $3000 to upwards of $5,500 for the entire treatment. Many patients become nervous about how they can afford the treatment. Some patients might be able to pay for Invisalign in one large payment in cash or using a credit card. Other patients might not have that luxury, which is why there are numerous payment options. In this case you will first want to contact your dental insurance carrier to see if they cover orthodontic treatment for adults. In the case that they do cover a certain amount you will only be left with the remaining balance. The good news is, many orthodontic offices offer easy financing plans. Usually you will be required to pay a down payment up front and the remaining cost will be divided into monthly payments throughout your course of treatment. This financing option makes it easy to afford Invisalign treatment.

How to Use Invisalign

Invisalign is easy to use and even easier to care for. When inserting your Invisalign aligners, it is recommended to start at your front teeth and carefully continue to seat the aligner on your remaining teeth. During removal, make sure you remove the aligner from the back molars first and then continue to remove the tray until it is released easily and comfortably. You will want to remove your Invisalign aligners when eating meals and snacks. Always brush your teeth after you eat and also rinse your aligners with cool water. When cleaning your aligners, be sure to use the special Invisalign Cleaning Crystals that are provided to you by your orthodontist. Replace your aligners every two weeks unless otherwise advised by your orthodontist. As you progress through your Invisalign treatment you will notice your teeth becoming gradually straighter, until you reach the final result at the end of the use of the last trays. You will be required to have follow up visits with your orthodontist about every six to twelve weeks during treatment. This will assure that the process is going smoothly and providing the desired results. Once treatment is complete you will have the beautiful, straight smile that you have always wanted. At the end of treatment, a retainer will be used to insure your teeth stay in the desired position.
